Straight answers to some very straight questions
My religion teaches that abortion is a sin.
Whatever your religion, it's likely that they also teach that God is forgiving
and merciful. As humans, we are meant to make mistakes. We believe God
forgives us for them and helps us learn from them as well. If you are
Catholic and would like to talk to other Catholics who are pro choice,
we have several phone numbers of help lines you can call.
My husband/boyfriend is against my having an
abortion.
Making the decision to terminate a pregnancy can be difficult.
If you do not think you are ready to handle the responsibilities
of raising a child, you should not be forced to have a baby by
your husband or boyfriend. Ideally you and your partner should
come to a decision together, but in the end the choice is yours.
Will this affect my future ability to get pregnant?
In virtually every case, no. An abortion now will in no way prevent
you from getting pregnant again and delivering healthy babies.
The possibility of complications that can affect future fertility
are less than 1 in 1000. Our physicians are experienced board
certified Oby/Gyn medical doctors who know how to do the procedure
correctly and safely.
Is this procedure performed by a certified
Medical Doctor?
Yes. We insist on any physician working with us being board certified
and experienced. Doctor O'Neil, owner of Gynemed Surgical Center
has been an Oby/gyn for over 20 years. The plain truth is that
complications from abortions are much more likely in the hands
of residents and other inexperienced people who don't know what
to look for to prevent problems. Our physicians have the experience
and the expertise to ensure that you are safe and feel little
or no discomfort.
Will I be embarrassed coming to Gynemed Surgical
Center?
No. We do not have protestors outside our building. We are located
in a private medical office park where passersby don't know what
we do. You can arrive and leave with anonymity.
Is the procedure painful?
No. You will feel minimal discomfort during and after the procedure. We
administer Xanax and Cytotec medications that help reduce anxiety and
soften the cervix for the procedure, something most other clinics do not
provide. After the procedure, we'll give you antibiotics and also pain
killers. You might feel cramping like a heavy period. That's all.
What will my co-workers/family/children think?
First of all, there is no reason for them to know. This is a private
decision by you and a private procedure. You need only take one
day off from work in most cases, or if you come on a Saturday,
you don't need to take any time off at all. We do our utmost to
protect the confidentiality of your visit.
Is a medical abortion safer than a surgical
abortion?
Theoretically yes. But with an experienced physician, such as
the ones at Gynemed, the risks are similar. The decision of which
procedure is right for you is purely a personal choice. Here are
a few pros and cons of each:
Ø Medical Abortion - is done mostly at
home. There will be some discomfort as the procedure causes cramping.
We will give you pain medication to reduce the discomfort as much as possible.
You will pass the fetal tissue sometime within 48 hours of beginning the
process. You do not have to take a day off from work and stay at our center
for the 4 hours for a surgical abortion. You do not need an escort to
bring you to the center.
Ø Surgical Abortion - is done with suction
D&C here in our center. Your entire stay at our center will
be approximately 4 hours. You can return to work the next day. You will
need an escort to accompany you to the center and drive you home afterwards.
