Other Services Offered at Gynemed Surgical Center:

Well Woman Care:

Gynemed is committed to assisting women to maintain their long term health and wellness. We offer physical exams and pap smears. The physical exam is a complete gynecology exam including a breast exam. The pap smear is a test to determine if a woman is at risk for cancer of the cervix. Other tests may also be performed at this exam including tests for vaginal infections or sexually transmitted infections.

Family Planning/Birth Control:

Our knowledgeable and caring staff can assist you in information about planning your future family. We offer pre-conception visits if you are planning a pregnancy in the near future. If you do not plan to start or add to your family at this time, our staff will provide you with education about all of your birth control options. They can assist in helping you decide which method of birth control is right for you.

Our facility offers the following birth control options:
  • Birth control pills
  • Birth control patch
  • Nuvaring
  • Depo-provera (injection)
  • Implanon
  • Paragard IUD
  • Mirena IUS
  • Essure sterilization

Some of these methods are available at our office and others can be purchase at the pharmacy of your choice with a prescription.

Sexually Transmitted Infection Screening:

To maintain our dedication to long-term health, we are also offering screening for sexually transmitted infections. Not all women experience symptoms from sexually transmitted infection. It is important to get screened for infections if you are sexually active whether you have symptoms or not. This testing can be part of a well woman exam or can be completed in a separate visit. We offer testing for:

  • Chlamydia
  • Gonorrhea
  • Trichomoniasis
  • Syphilis
  • HIV
  • Herpes (with symptoms only)
  • Genital warts
General Office Visit:

If you are having symptoms or concerns outside of your annual well woman exam, we are pleased to offer services to assist you. Examples of these services would include but are not limited to changing birth control methods and symptoms of infection.

  • No Appointment needed for the Emergency Contraception Pill.

Today, couples have many safe effective methods of contraception available. There are prescription means such as: birth control pills; mechanical means such as condoms, diaphragms and NuvaRing®; and medical methods such as sterilization. There are times when unprotected sexual intercourse happens. For those occasions, a safe, effective method of post coital birth control is available to prevent unwanted pregnancies. This Emergency Contraception Procedure (ECP) may be used up to 72 hours (3 days) from the time of unprotected sexual intercourse.

Methodology
This procedure consists of a single emergency dose of Levonorgestrel taken orally. The tablet should be taken on an empty stomach (1-2 hours after your last meal) and the patient should continue to avoid eating for another 2 hours. Possible adverse reactions may include: nausea, abdominal pain, dizziness, breast swelling, bleeding, headache, or vomiting. These reactions are minimal and do not require treatment.

The Emergency Contraception Pill does not prevent you from getting pregnant in the future. Therefore, it is vital to use an effective form of birth control after the ECP treatment.

Your next menstrual period should occur within 2 days of your normal expected period. If a menstrual period does not occur within 21 days of the ECP treatment, the patient should immediately have a pregnancy test. If that pregnancy test is positive, you will need to terminate the pregnancy, due to the increased risk of birth defects.
